About Me : Personal Statement

Anthony Collins is a producer-editor, teacher, musician, ethnomusicologist, writer, scholar, explorer, and social development media facilitator.

As a professional filmmaker for more than 25 years, Anthony has received international acclaim as producer/editor of more than 50 films and videos. His professional and creative work has been exhibited, broadcast and distributed in more than 20 countries. Notable achievements include two Ford Foundation Media Production Grants, a Fulbright Senior Scholar Research Grant, a National Endowment for the Humanities Grant, and others. He has also worked directly with many non-governmental, community-based groups in various countries---Philippines, Oman, Afghanistan, and Guatemala---facilitating community-based abilities to produce original media productions.

As a musician for more than 40 years, Anthony performs on acoustic instruments (viola, violin, guitar, others) and is expanding his interest to include electronic music. His musical interests are wide, varied and based upon a life-long pursuits in the study of music.

As a scholar and writer, Anthony’s activities include doctoral studies in educational theory, with extensive research writing in US legal history, ethnic studies, film studies, and cultural history.

Anthony has earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Film and Television Production from UCLA, a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Film and Television from UCLA, a Master of Arts (MA) in Asian American Studies from UCLA, and he is working to complete a doctoral degree in Educaitonal Leadership and Change from Fielding Graduate University in California. He is currently a professor of digital media production at the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and he pursues creative, professional projects from his base in the UAE.
